Best Place to Eat

The thing about Ostuni is there are no shortage of good places to eat. Probably my favourite was beneath the streets of the old town where the town’s old olive press was originally. It was called Il Piccolo (thanks Matthew) who helped me remember the name of this ristorante.
In terms of atmosphere the grotto type restaurants offer the best ambience, which is odd for eating in Italy in the summer, choosing to eat indoor rather than fuori.(outside).. It is usually a matter of taste as to which do the best dishes or cuisine, I have my own favourites like Lo Spessite for it’s unique dishes or il Vigliero for it’s fantastic sea food.
I loved La Reggia for its very friendly mood, the cavern type interior and mixed antipasti that were to die for… the mixed antipasti was about as much as you eat as well. Funny thing was it was never on the menu, I was unsure what to order one time, it was not high season and Peppe the owner and chef, made a taste of everything for me. Thing was I would ask the waiter for it every time I went, even when it was busy in August, and I was never disappointed. My favourite main there if I could manage it after the antipasti was the swordfish.. with as sauce of tomato olive and capers, fantastic.

Testimonies:

My family had a great time staying at Kernena Ostuni. The place is great for people who want to:
- enjoy the countryside views
- explore the lovely villages and historic towns nearby
- taste the authentic Italian cuisine in the towns nearby
- visit the local music festivals and festas
- relax on the nearby sandy beaches and coves

The best part for me was the fact that there was no TV and video games and by night you could hear the crickets and the cicadas. It was a real back to basics family holiday where we all got to know one another again.

Holiday in Ostuni

Imagine the scene: waking up in a peaceful Trullo surrounded by olive trees under a blue sky at the beginning of another wonderful day holidaying in Ostuni. Deep in the Heel of Italy, in the region of Puglia, dry stone walls separate fields of red earth and ancient olive groves, surrounded by the largest stretch of unspoilt coast line in Italy.

The Garden

The Garden

Holidaying in the land of the Trulli is a truly magical experience. I’ve being going there years and have enjoyed guaranteed sunshine every summer. If there is one thing a holiday here is more than, is just sunshine. The things to do here are as much about experience as activity. Picking figs, plums and small red pears before breakfast, then eating them still warm from the morning sun, begins a day in touch with a piece of paradise.
Breakfast

Breakfast

The coast line of Ostuni is as varied as it is breathtaking. Whether it is long sandy beaches or inlets and coves, the sea is as clean and clear as you will find. We usually take it easy in the morning and arrive at the beach about 11. Choosing which one is the only debate as we all have different favourites, but whatever the outcome no one is disappointed. We love the white sandy beaches, they are fun and safe for the children and we can’t seem to keep them out of the sea which besides being clean turquoise and warm, the depths are ideal for families. Lunch at the beach has become a convention, it could be a packed lunch, freshly bought Panini, Pizza or Foccacia, or we spoil ourselves and dine at a restaurant, il Vigliero at Villa Nova being our favourite.

The sea

Late afternoon we head back from the beach and make a coffee or a beer and relax in the early evening sun. This is a relaxing part of the day as the children tend to take a cat nap, and are rejuvenated for the evening.
City walls

In the evening we often head to the old town of Ostuni for an inexpensive but delicious  meal. Afterwards we walk around in the white labyrinth of narrow streets and find piazza to buy an ice-cream and watch the world go by.

Around Ostuni

Around Ostuni

Groves of olive trees, rooted in red soil bordered by stone walls, that sweep down to the coastline of soft white sandy beaches, inlets enclosed by volcanic rock. White conical roofed trullo’s sprinkled around the land, bring a fairytale like atmosphere to Ostuni that sits on the hill-top overlooking sea.

There are countless things to do and see in the surrounding area of Ostuni. The nearby towns of Caravigno, Cisternino, Martina Franaca, Locorotundo and in particular the trullo town of Alberobello have plenty to offer it terms of day trips.

The Zoo / Safari Park near Fasano, is less than a 20 minute drive from Ostuni. The park contains a drive through safari park, a zoo, aquarium and a fun park with water rides, rollercoaster’s and shows. It is the biggest Zoo in Italy with the greatest number of animal species in Europe.
The coastline of Ostuni is outstanding. Immaculate white sandy beaches, some that stretch a few kilometres and others countless small sandy coves enclosed by volcanic rocks that look out on a turquoise sea, conjure up a deserted island experience.

The caves at Grotte di Castellana are about the most jaw-dropping in the world. A 30 minute drive from Ostuni, it is a must do on your stay in this region. Escape the heat of the day by going underground to see the most spectacular stalactites and stalagmites. The vast hall of white columns and luminous lake at the end of the tour through the caves is as big and as magical as you could possibly imagine.

REST CLUB SPESSITE S.R.L.

REST CLUB SPESSITE S.R.L. VIA BRANGASI CLEMENTE (Centro storico, Old Town Ostuni)

Located in one of the most breathtaking parts of the centro storico, Spessite is decorated in a remarkable way that blends in with its surroundings sending you back in time to centuries gone by.
The food is very traditional to the locality with certain dishes and after dinner liquors unique to Spessite.
It is best not to ask for a menu and just give a general idea of what you would like. If you want to taste the local cuisine it is a very good place to go. A meal for 2 with plenty of wine and a digestivo after ( ask for the digestivo della casa, it is fantastic ).. would cost about €50

My brother went here and he asked me what was the best thing to eat.. I told them to ask their advice.. ” can you recommend ?” which is: può consigliarmi? so he wrote it down as: pw-oh con silly army ? and it worked out just fine
